I really enjoyed The Hill. It’s been a long time since I’ve read an urban story that felt this real and this well put together. King and Born move with purpose, and their whole team follows that same energy — everybody knows their role, and it makes the story flow effortlessly. What I loved most is that it wasn’t written like the typical hood book. It showed those Ocean Hill Brownsville kats as the truth, with all the pride, grit, and authenticity that comes with that. A powerful book.

The Hill
I feel like the message from this story (The Hill) is realistic which makes this a classic and raw piece of evidence about the hood. It displays how the adults before us grew up living by codes of the streets which is different from my generation of today. The kids are more lost today of my generation with no insight of a movement like King & Born ran, they ran the streets of Brooklyn with raw style. Not like the rappers or gang bangers of today, so this is inspiring to me. Just got book 2!

The Hill
Dame, it was great for the first book. The Hill pulled me straight into the world of Ocean Hill Brownsville—not just the streets, but the mindset, the loyalty, and the pressure that shaped King, Born, and their whole crew. What I appreciated most was how real the storytelling felt. The author doesn’t glamorize anything; he shows the struggle, the choices, and the consequences with honesty and depth. Watching the characters grow from youth in 1983 to young men finding their place is a great read.

The Hill is a very interesting book about what goes on in these mean streets of Brooklyn and how it affects our community and everyday life's as single black mothers especially trying to raise young black kings are forced to watch the youth become products of our environment.
